Just ordered my first 2 banana trees. I live in south Florida, and am looking forward to learning how to grow these puppies.

Bananas are great plants to have in the Home. I hope you didn't order your trees from this site though...I ordered a 'manzano' and NO ONE has been able to actually identify it as a Manzano banana plant. I emailed this site several times and received no response. It hasn't fruited yet, so I will find out what it is when it does. Anyways, there are lots and lots of local nurseries where you can get banana trees. You can even get Dwarf Cavendish banana trees at Home Depot! If you want to be sure of what you are getting, go by a local nursery. We are lucky to live in a tropical area where all kinds of excellent fruit trees thrive. Check out this site for bananas. They are located in the Redlands and are easy to get to using the Florida Turnpike. http://www.going-bananas.com/I spoke with them over the phone and they are very nice and informative. They have over 90 varieties yet have never seen the plant that I received from this site!

I did order my plants from this site. Hopefully it'll turn out alright. If not, I'll try the one you recommend. I called every local nursery in my phone book, and only one had a couple of different bananas growing on his property. I didn't like the condition of his plants, so I passed and will have to go the internet route. You're the second person who's mentioned going-bananas.com, so I might just get a couple of the same plants from them for comparison sake. Thanks for the tip.

After further review......I found Daves Garden, in their feedback section, and it looks like this company has a history of poor service and poor products/shipping. I sent an email cancelling my order, and I'll try going bananas instead. I should have used them first, especially since they're local.

No worries. I made the same silly mistake. I didn't even think we could grow bananas here until I saw one for sale at Home Depot. That's when I decided to buy my favorite type of banana 'manzano' and found this site. I guess it was for the best because I've since discovered that there are hundreds of different types of bananas. I tried a 'raja puri' banana at the fruit and spice park the other day, as well as a few other lady finger types. All excellent! Another good nursery in South Florida for tropical fruit trees, including bananas, is Pine Island Nursery. It's on Eureka(sw 182nd st) and around 162nd ave...just east of Krome Ave. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a Sapodilla tree if you have room for one. They currently have the fruit for sale at this nursery, but not the tree. If you go by there and want to try the fruit, ask them for the 'alano' sapodillas. Those are the widely considered the best. Here is a link to their site: http://www.tropicalfruitnursery.com/availability_common.htm

Hello everyone! I live in the peidmont section of NC & bought a banana tree in the 'scratch & dent" section at Lowes. I have no idea which type it is, but it is making babies and I want to try and move some of them. The tree actually made it through some really cold weather and 2 ice storms. Does anyone have any pointers for me? I would appreciate any advice.
