Hey while were all watching this forum. I bought a dwarf cavendish rhizome from banana tree.com and when it came it, the outside (skin?)/stalk was brownish and the everything was cut (down to the bare bulb. My question is ... after I planted the bulb (its been 2 weeks) nothing has happened except this tiny little spike has pushed out of the top of the bulb more and more. But the whole outskin looks bad.. like it is rotting or something and also splitting(brown)... is this normal??? I can see through the split that has formed that the inside of the plant is fresh green. I replanted the bulb because I thought the soil was not adequate and put it in the same small 6 inch container with more perlite and alittle bit of mulch mixed in to help drain..

PLEASE HELP!!! First Banana Plant

If the plant is splitting, could it be a dying plant, or, your plant could have the Fusarium wilt. Search the internet if you don't know about it. But I'm not sure about what I'm saying but I know the symptoms. Fusarium wilt is a dangerous disease and can be transferred form one banana to another by HUMANS!!! But don't panic. As long as you know the REAL sickness of the plant. I haven't experienced that sickness, only Banana Bunchy Top, the deadliest disease among the musa family...

Thanks... I hope...
