Does anyone have any experience with growing cycads from seed? What conditions would be best for the seed like temperature, dampness, depth, etc. and which of those is a necessary factor to have.

I recently purchased Dioon Edule seeds from this site but have seen no signs of germination.

I have germinated quite a few Dioon edule seeds. All I did was take off the outer shell carefully, and place in a moist baggy full of peat moss. You'll see little white plug looking things coming out of the end of them. When you see this take them out of the bag and lay them on the top of the soil on their side(keep moist). The little root will work it's way down into the soil.
I used to plant them with the root directly down, but this caused some of them to rot.
Good luck, and they should be sprouting soon.

Thanks a ton, dug up the seeds to see if the root was creeping and 2 out of 5 were already an inch long. I moved the 2 out of the small plastic squares I started all the seeds in and put them into bigger pots.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of the other cycads found on this site or found anywhere else. I'm thinking of collecting more so any input would be appreciated
