Has anyone had any experience growing Sequoia giganteum or "Giant Redwood"? I purchased some seeds from this site but I am getting a low germination amount and the seedlings that do begin to grow die within a week.

Does anyone know about the types of conditions the young plants should be in (dampness, temerature, etc)?

I have never tried to grow Sequoia Giganteum. However, I studied both Botany and Fire Science extensively years ago at the University of California.

It is my understanding that S. Giganteum seeds require exposure to fire before they germinate effectively.

In nature the tree grows at a very specific altitude and its range is quite limited. The range is much smaller than Sequoia Sempervirens, the Coastal Redwood.

You may wish to call the Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens. They have many people trained in the California indigenous plants. The Gardens also have a large stand of S. Sempervirens. I believe they do not have any S. Giganteum. Their may be a reason for this. If so, they could advise you.
