Hello to all:

Have a 4' 6" Musa Sumatrana (Varietated blood banana "Rojo") in a 10" pot. Have it inside, has good light, kind of dry in the room it's in.

I live in Northern California, 20 miles in from the coast in Sonoma County (Petaluma to be exact). I think it sometimes frosts here in the winter, but being close to the coast, it's a little more temperate here than inland (????)

Does this thing produce fruit in the "best" conditions? What are the chances of it doing so in a pot and/or indoors? What can I do to enhance its experience and to encourage fuit bearing?

What kind of fertilizer should I use? (I think I saw someone say they love "tomato food"?

How should I repot this guy? What kind of soil, what kind of pot, what size pot should it graduate to, fertilizer, etc....

And since I'm SO BAD at judging watering....HOW often should I water, to avoid "overwatering"?

What does it mean if the bottom leaves are dying/browning? The tips are a little curled and brown. What do you do about it?

Is spraying the plant with water good for it? My room is pretty dry, but a nice temp. Today, when I "misted/sprayed" water on the leaves and stems, it seemed to change in just HOURS! It's become a more lush, deep shade of green and the leaves look fuller and velvety, as opposed to drier, lighter and "crustier".

There appears to be new growth coming from the center of the plant.

And LASTLY:

Are there ANY gorgeous, lush banana trees that can grow well and bear fruit in POTS in my zone? Which ones are they and ... How does the BLUE Java?? or ICe cream Java banana sound ??

I thank you for taking a look at what I'm asking. Anyone's reply is so welcome and appreciated!~

Thank you!!

Cameron

Just a quick reply for now as I have to go, but a 4'6" nana in a 10" pot, not big enough. nanas love water, when they have too much (hardly ever) they drip the excess all over your nice new laminated flooring !! Get yourself a big pot as soon as posssible !! Speak later ( if nobody else beats me to it ).
