when I was in Ecuador two years ago, I ate some wonderful fruits very similar to Papaya, but a bit larger than I was use to, and they were a bright yellow in color. the flesh could have either been yellow or pinkish red, I am not sure. I was told it was related to Papaya, and It tasted different.
I am wondering if anyone out there knows the scientific name of this 'babaco' found in Ecuador?
Also, i would like to know the names of several other fruits I ate there. All I know it the common names in Spanish. Naranjillia, Guayabana, Babaco, and these little Lime-like citus fruits which although they looked like limes, they had a very sweet taste like sweetened Lemonade. if anyone could help with the real names for such fruits, it would be greatly appreciated!

My guess is that your papaya-like fruit is Carica x heilbornii var. pentagona
I'm not sure about the citrus fruit though. Edited by spectrum on Jun 27, 2005 at 09:26 PM Edited by spectrum on Jun 27, 2005 at 09:27 PM
