Hopefully you'll be able to see my pictures below. I bought a banana tree from a local supplier but not sure what kind it is. Also - I have three new shoots appearing from the soil which I assume I should remove and transplant so I can enable the plant to promote growth on the main stem. Does this all seem alright? Thank you. R.

impossible to tell what type it is at this stage,,but it looks fine and the shoots coming out at the bottom are what is referred to in the lingo as "daughters" as the main plant is the mother and has both male and female flowers on it. wait for the daughters to get to about 3 feet tall and separate from the mother to have new "mothers" who will eventually develop new "daughters" and the beat goes on! what to do when the fruit develops is a whole different subject that i will be happy to explain to you if and when u succeed in developing bananas..Nick

Hi, It looks like you have a Musa Basjoo, you may also hear the term "pups" referrred to your new baby plants.
Good luck with your Musa

I agree with Nick, leave the pups on the plant so that they develop enough of their own root system. Right now they are living off the main corm. If you cut them off too early they will certainly die. Regards
