Hello:

I purchased some macadamia seeds a few months back from bananatree.com. The plants all came up but i am am a bit confused.

The nuts looked like macadamia. But the leaves are deeply palmate resembling marajana leaves more or less. From what i see online this isnt what macadamia leaves should look like.

Trees are fast growin about 3 feet tall. Any idea what they could be? like i said go the seeds here and they looked like macadamia nuts.

any thoughts appreciated.

Hey Jeff, I have been dealing with The Banana Tree for years. You can be assured that they sent you what you ordered. Mistakes can be made of course, but I have found these guys to be among the best of sellers. Can you post a PIC so we can all get a look?
I would bet that if they made a mistake, that they would take care of you as far as replacing them with another batch. Also ask your teenage son if he has "lost" any seeds lately.( Just Kidding) How many trees do you have growing? I ask only because I've had animals eat my seeds and "plant" others in their place.(Nut pine seed planted- filbert tree growing)

Well I can assure you 100% that they did not suppy what I purchased. Each seed (nut) was planted in its own bag and housed indoors. Germination was near 100% and each bag now has a tree.

The leaves are palmate and deeply lobed. each lobe is toothed. I have found a tree locally that I believe is in fact what I received. The tree has a panicle of small red flowers, and new shoots (branches) have a hairy apperance.

Would still like to know what this is. Its a nice tree so I dont much care but I would like to know what I have.

The seed pods are a bit smaller than a golf ball and inside are 2 or 3 nuts. Once removed from the hust that houses the seeds, each seed has a thin hard outer "shell" that you can crack an peal away reveling a white "nut".

I bit one and the flavor is sweet so I would also like to know of it is edible. Perhaps this is in the macademia family????

Who knows but its not a macademia

any advise still appreciated.

The seeds that I received from Banana-tree.com were Jatropha muttifida not macadamia. They doo look like macadamia nuts but in fact they are highly poisonous. So in case anyone else got the wrond seeds -- dont eat the nuts!

I also ordered 100 seeds of Musa Zabrina. They are nearly one year old and they are NOT Zabrina -- there is no mottling of the leaves. When they flower I will know for sure what they are.

So not too keen on ordering from here again -- seems to be a serious control problem.
