Why Not?

I posted a topic about my trees on the forum for How to grow and realized I made a mistake so I am now posting it here. I have some bananna trees that have produced what I believe to be mature fruit. However I do not know the kind of tree I have. Can you eat any bananna tree fruit or is some of it poisonous? If someone could send me their e-mail address I could send them a couple pictures and maybe you can tell me what kind of trees I have. Thanks!!!

Brent, I'm not REALLY a Guru, but to my knowledge, there are no poisonous varieties of banana. I think some are classed as ornamentals only because they are very seedy, not sweet, fiberous, very small, etc.
I've had a couple of trees fruit before, but our season is too short for any ripening, so they were still green and small (and wasted).
There is the old taste test method where you take a very small sample in your mouth, only long enough to get a taste and then spit and concider.
I think most of the lesser types will have seeds still in the fruit, so that could be a clue. I don't guess you are growing a plantain or "cooking" type of musa relative, that would be fine to eat, but not sweet. Hope this gives you a start. Michael

Michael, Thanks for the reply. If you or someone else could check out these 2 pictures of my bananas before they got mature and the trees from early spring to let me know the type I would appreciate it.

Brent, those are edible but u must allow them to stay on the banana tree and plump out, that is to say they will swell so that there is no sharp dimensions on the fruit, then cut the bunch off and hang them inverted in a cool place to ripen up,,,usually takes about a week and a half before u see them start to turn yellow,,, wait untill the banana is a little over yellow before picking it and eating,,,,they will turn yellow individually but once one turns the others are right behind it,,,and the entire bunch will be done in about 3-5 days...Nick
