Hi, my leaves are turning brown, and some of them seem to be splitting!! I was hoping someone might be able to help tell me why this would be happening.
We kept this plant from the spring out in my computer room, but it gets down in the 60's at night out here, so we moved it upstairs to our bathroom, which is the warmest room in the house. We have a LOT of humidity problems ( humidity is REAL low ), and we have a humidifier downstairs that runs till it reaches 40-45.
what else..hmm..oh we live in lower Pennsylvania.
I am posting a couple pictures ( hopefully ) so you can see hwat I mean, and also you can see if maybe it doesnt get enough light where i have it?
Thank you very much Mike
P.S. - the walls are textured not cracked ;) and ignore that piece of dirt on the floor, since I have...wife is gonna shoot me..lol
I had the same problem with my 1st plant, had no idea why, and then someone told be that they need lots and lots of light. My 2nd banana (now) with the light (actually I made it my self I bought a light bulb from hardware store that is made especially for plants and screwed it to a regular table lamp) so the lamp is right on top of the plant. So far so good new leafs coming out without any problems... I am not an expert but you can always try... ;) Hope this helps, good luck!

Knight The same thing was happening to my plant and what I found was I needed to add more humidity to the room I was growing it in. So what I did was get a vaporizer that you typically use for babies. I put a humidistat in the room and keep the humidity at about 60%. Also I had my plant in soil that was too heavy which aided in the poor growing. So I changed the soil and all worked well. Here is my secret mix for soil which I found works great. Go get yourself a bag of top soil ( not potting soil with added nutrients/chemicals ), a bag of perilite and a bag of sphaghum moss and mix together in equal parts. This will make a soil that drains well and allows air pockets to be formed in the soil for healthy root production. This with a light dose of fertilizer once a month will work wonders. Best of Luck !! Wayne
