Hello guys. New to posting on the board but I do read it off and on... I was forced to beg for help when I went to a local nursery (in Tucson) and found a banana tree sitting by its lonesome outside of the office. The owner told me it was from Vietnam and showed me the mature plants he had growing on the other side. I already have a couple dwarf cavendishes that I bought (and have at least doubled in size in the past two months) - but seeing another variety I just snapped it up. Anyone have an idea what type this is? The one I'm wondering about is on the right. And a closer look.

the pics of this pup are nice - the best i can tell with the 25 different species ive had - the slight pink on the trunk and if the leaves have a slight red color on the very outline of the leaves and the texture of the leave - it looks like possibly a brazzilian tall - has to much space between the leaves to be a dwarf variety ( but it is still pretty young to tell) - no red splotches on the young leaves tell me its not in the rojo family .
so my best guess at this stage is poss tall brazzilian - if so enjoy very strong variety and eatable bananas called lady fingers(many 3-4 inches) that have a very sweet flavor but are smaller the grand nain bananas (chaheeta bananas) and tall brazillians like to put out pups in great numbers - ive gotten up to 14 pups off one of mine in 1 year but the mother was about 35 feet tall at the time. :)

Did you ever figure it out? It's too little in the picture to be able to tell. I've seen bananas growing near Franklin, TN but didn't get close enough to figure out what kind they were.
