Is or are there any insecticides on the market that is safe to spray on a banana tree? Would Bug-B-Gon work? I found a grass hopper on the plant the other day, a Japanese bettle on it today and a catipiller too. Any recomened insecticides? Please help. There are holes all over the plant.

I've used a bug spray specifically called a Japanese Beetle Killer, since lots of beetles have done much damage to my Basjoos. It works on 80-90% of the bugs, but caused some bad burn to the plant in the sun. I'm in NJ too, I've not seen Japanese Beetles as bad as this year!

Good Luck

I have a banana tree and it is growing very fast. But I am having problems with keeping it to look healthy. Every time the tree starts growing really good, it starts to develop purplish brown spots on the leaves. Eventually where the spots were located it starts to dry up and die in those areas making the tree look unhealthy. Do you have any idea what this could be from? I have it by the window getting good sun light, I water it consistently etc. I have it also in a large pot, fertilizer, mulch etc but it still happens....Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I dont know what kind I have. It is just big and green with no other charactieristics.

robinrobin. Your banana tree might have a nutrient deficiencey or it might have some kind of disease. It sounds like it is disease becuase it is in spots. A fungicide should take care of disease. Don't spray inside the house if the fungicide is not labeled for inside use. I'm not very sure on what disease it might be, but if I were you, I would look further into that.

My banana tree has a purple stripe down the center vein of it. I think it is a phosphurus deficiencey, but I am not sure. Does any one know?
