Man I had no idea just how huge thos manicata leaves can get, what a freaky plant. Gunnera manicata reminds me of that plant they had in the movie... cant' think of the name where it would eat people ahahhaa. I've seen some pictures of gunnera growing very, very large; too bad the weather here isn't good enough to grow well all year. Has anybody here grown manicata to a huge size too? How long did it take before it started eating people? ahahhaa

I see this is an old post, but I agree, G. manicata is really cooooooooooooool! About the best place to grow it in the USA is the Pacific Northwest from Northern CA up into Washington state. I have personally tried it five times here in southern alabama with no success. As soon as the heat turns up in June it starts to die no matter what I have tried. Since it comes from the 'Cloud Mountains' of S.America, it stands to reason it would only really thrive in that kind of climate.

By the way...the name of the movie you are trying to think of is, Little Shop of Horrors.

Make your words soft and sweet; you just may have to eat them someday.

Hello,
Is somebody interested to trade some gunnera seedlings for many MOSO seeds(phyllostachys pubescens , a hardy giant bamboo)
I am a gardener form Romania, eastern Europe and I traded many MOSO seeds with gardeners from USA and all over the world
Thanks,
