I hope I've not been premature with my planting, but how do the roots grow? Straight down or out? I have planted some just a foot or so from concrete pool deck and need to make sure that they won't grow up under the concrete and crack it. If so I need to move them now before they get any older. After I read the post from the person who said theirs was growing under a wall and tearing him I got a little freaked out. My husband will kill me if I have planted something that will tear up the concrete!! Please tell me what you know.

The roots typically grow down and out so if it were me I would move the plant at least 5 ft or more away from the concrete if you do not want to have problems with your husbands concrete. Best of luck with your plants !! Wayne

Also, make sure the concrete is far away from the plant. In our street, I've found a banana owner an the plants are already very big, consisting about 10 banana plants. The clump is many years old. The owner covered the sides woth concrete to make it attractive but when a big banana plant stick to the concrete and sending new sucker, the new emerging sucker suddenly break the conrete and started its new growth over the concrete. Also, roots of banana plants are so fibrous, they are not strong enough to break concrete floors, unless if you planted a woody tree.
Thanks.
