Hi, I would like to purchase about 25-30 banana seeds that wiil survive the nortern kentucky winters. I think the name is basoom? Very small trees would also be accepted. Please contact me if you have an inexpensive source................ THANKS
Hello, Im wanting to know how to collect "pups" from adult banana trees. I have a green and burgandy tree about five feet tall. It has a smaller sprout about three feet tall and a smaller one about 12" tall. I'm certain that the three foot tree will have it's own roots by now and can be separated but what about a 12" tree. Can it be severed from the parent tree if it has no roots and be transplanted? All of these plants will be potted and moved indoors for winter as I live in Kentucky (

I believe you are looking for Musa Basjoo. Very cold hardy. Sorry to say, I do not have one...
I got a 2' tall pup that grew good roots. Just make sure you get a decent amount of corm when severing the pup and it should grow for you.
All you need to invent is an imagination, and a pile of junk.

Musa basjoo seeds aren't available, but Musa sikkimensis is another cold hardy banana that can be grown from seed, but it usually takes 100 seeds just to get a handful of starts(if your lucky). Buying an already growing plant would be a better deal for getting common bananas such as Musa sikkimensis, and basjoo, as well as Musa thompsonii(also cold hardy). For less common ones like Musa sikkimensis hybrid Daj giant go for the seeds since it is so new that there aren't plants for sale yet, and it's seems to be one of the fastest growing bananas from seed, probally as fast as Ensete ventricosum which is thought to be the fastest from seed. Good luck sprouting/growing.
