wow. this site is great. i have wanted a banana plant forever. my parents spent the weekend in pigeon forge for the labor day holiday. at the hotel they were staying at, they were digging up baby banana plants and TROWING THEM AWAY. so my mom asked if she could have one, they said yes, and now i have a new addition to my family. i believe that it is the chinese yellow (because of the leaves).its been in a pot for 2 days now and i understand the fact that it has to be fertilized. i have friends in gerogia that feed theirs shredded cabbage.(they put the shredded cabbage close to the stock on top of the dirt.) i dont like using commercial fertilizer would rather use natural or organic. would compost be ok and or the shredded green veggies? another thing.... the tips of the leaves are starting to turn brown. im a plant freak and i know that, that usually means to feed the plant, but im in uncharted territory. i could use some info i dont want "fred" to die. thank you.
