As a Christmas gift this year, I was hoping to buy a banana tree that has already matured. It will be a gift for my 84 year old father in law, he had a tree when he was in the Marines in China 65 years ago- He drives out to the market every other day for a quart of milk and 2 bananas. I had considered buying a cow...but I thought the banana tree would be a smidge easier. Needless to say, I would like to avoid buying a tree that would take 2-3 years to bear fruit- we are located in the northeast (MA)- my web search "bore no fruit"

Tell That old China Marine SEMPER FI. from another Jar Head. And merry Christmas. I have a pup( About 1 1/2 FT high, no leaves yet) that I have cut away from the "Mother" and letting it rest. If you would like I could dig it up and send it to you. I don't know anything about growing in your area so I'm not sure it would work, but would be willing to try. The "Mother" has been in the ground about 20 months and is just now starting to bloom. So I would guess that it would take about that long for this pup to fruit. If you don't want this one from me I will buy one for him and have it shipped there. I'm sure that The Banana Tree has some that would work in your area. Let me know which way you want to go and I will check on what it would cost to ship it to you. If we can get one from TBT for less then I will have it shipped to you. I think he would enjoy something like that and be a nice surprise. If you are thinking of a banana that has long leaves then I not to sure you can get one unless it is from someone close to you. Shipping this time of the year could be a challenge, the cold. Let me know. georgecarolyn@verizon.net
