Well we had our cold, for here, and even though I covered the bananas, the best I could, all the leaves have turned brown and starting to fall down. The bunch of Bananas are still gooking good but don't seem to be growing any bigger. I wonder if they will grow and ripen or just die?? After two years I hope they make it. Any one have any Ideas??

What make Bananas bloom.
We have a really tall one, culture UNK, and it been growing about 19 months and still nothing(Lots of pups 3+). Also have a lady finger that is about 9 months old.(One pup) Very healthy and both growing great, taller one past the roof line.

the fruit will probably ripen if its big enough, but not grow much. It needs green leaves to do photosynthesis to produce sugars and such for the fruit. However even without the cold towards the end of the bananas life cycle its leaves will start dying as it puts all its energy into the fruit. This is natural, the tree dies as the fruit ripens, then the babies from the groun will replace it. So it really depends on what stage the fruit is at I guess. You still want to keep it watered and such during this stage though as it needs a lot of moisture for the fruit.

Thanks for your reply. I will watch it closely and see what happens. The bananas are about 6 inches long not the 10 inch I was hoping for, At this stage of the game We'll take what ever we can get.
