Hello, I'm new to the banana family...
On a trip to the Caribbean, I was told that two banana trees have to grow together to be fertile.
Is this true? And are there specific roles that each tree play in producing the fruit? Is it a specific species?
Is it also true that it takes nine months for the fruit to grow and ripen?
Any info would be really helpful. I am planning to write a book and can't find this information anywhere!
Thanks!

Do some research, there is a lot of info out there on bananas.
No they don't need to be next to each other.
