I live in Maryland and have a banana tree that I've always kept indoors (3-4 years). It's about 10-12 feet tall and has been doing great. About a month ago it started growing a banana flower (thanks to this forum I've figured out what it is!) and I also noticed that it has 2 little banana trees growing on either side.
My questions are..... 1) Is the original banana tree going to die now that it has grown a flower? 2) What about the babies? Should I just let them keep growing throughout the winter? Should I transplant them to new pots? If so, when? 3) Anything else I should know?? THANKS so much for any insight you can give me. Tammy Help! I've got a banana tree in my living room! |

Hi
The babies as you call them are called pups!! leave them on the plant untill approx 8 inches tall then they can be cut off of the parent plant with a knife I find a bread knife is good for this and then re pot them on their own. As for your banana having a flower it will not now die so dont worry. |

The flowering banana will die after it fruits. Then you just cut it off at the bottom and let the pups take over.
