Please help!
I'm somewhat of a novice here. Just planted my first banana tree in my yard in Northern Texas. It thrived for the first three months. Now it's wilted because of the cold evenings, it's been about 40, but not below freezing.
Do I cut back the wilted leaves, or leave them over the winter and just mulch around the roots to protect them from frost?
Much thanks in advance-
Marci

MsMarci, I think you will be ok. Sometimes bananas can take a beating from weather that is not ideal and they can look pretty raggedy but come warm weather they will come back full strength. Even frost were to kill some of the leaves, you'd still be ok. Plus, bananas that are well established have been known to regrow even after frost has killed the entire upper portion. Just go really easy on the water during winter. Good luck!
P.S. I'm a CA man myself but i have a big ol place in my heart for Texas, best wishes for your banana and remember, good ol fashioned love is a home gardener's best secret! (not really, but is sure sounds nice doesn't it?)
Hey i love plants, but girls are fun too. Send me a private message!
