Heh ...guess I need to check in here more often.

Wick1ert - I believe both of yours will have to come in. I've never seen either of them listed on any "cold hardy" lists.

Jldeitch.

Leave the pup on until it is about 3 ft tall. If you remove it too soon it will likely die as it will most likely have no roots.

JohhnyP Glad to hear your bananas are doing well , but damn Ensetes. You'll be lucky if they make it through the winter without hitting the ceiling. The musa's that I started from seed were fairly easy assuming that you actually get a fairly fresh batch of seeds. I fill a ziplock bag with seed starting mix, add water, close and shake the hell out of it. I open the bag just a bit and squeeze as much water out as i can. I add the seeds and treat it like shake and bake. Tag it and sit it on a shelf for a while. I've had some germinate in 2 weeks and others take 8 months. Have patience.

What size pot are your 18inch tall bananas in? If they are sucking up the water, I would move them up.

I raised about 75 Musa basjoo last year. I went from 4 inch pots straight to 1 gallon, then to 3 gallon. All lived and flourished. As fast as bananas grow I wouldn't be scared to move them to a bigger pot. One advantage that you have is the additional heat. If you didn't have that additional heat, the bananas would be growing slower and sucking less water. Sounds to me like it is time to move them into a bigger house.

fyi ...my basjoo are currently growing at about an inch a day for reference.

No biggie. Sounds as if the one in the 3 gallon pot is pretty good size. I'm trying to get him to cut a pup off his big one just in case all three of you want one. If not, no big deal. I don't know what he wants for them yet, but he is typically very reasonable.

I'm heading out on Sunday to go work on the garden and I will be afk for the duration of the show.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

I'm trying to get one of the guys that I do the garden with, to part with one of his lasiocarpas as well.

I think his is smaller ..maybe in a three gallon pot. He is going to see if he has an extra. =)

That way at least two of you could leave with a new banana.

We'll have the garden set up by the time that the show opens on the 28th. We can't sell anything out of the garden until sunday at 5 pm when the show closes and we tear the garden down.

We will have a lot of plants in the booth that we can sell mskitty. If you decide you for sure want that banana i'll make sure it is in the booth the first day of the show.

Sam I sent you a couple pictures of the lasiocarpa. Here is a link to one in bloom.

This plant is full grown so no telling if/when you could get it to bloom. Back to my honey-do list.

Sorry didn't mean to make you think that i was attacking you. I've got 20 bucks and a year into it, i was hoping to get 35 out of it but that is negotiable. I'm thinking I'll slap a tag on it at the show and see what happens. I'll mark it down in the latter days if necessary. Email me an email addy and i'll send you a pic ....beadedlizard@gmail.com ...i feel the spam coming already =). Or i can post it on my domain ....whatever. Let me know if you have any naners to trade, I would much rather do that.

it is in the gh ...and happy. But i think it would like more sun. And i am serious...this is my favorite naner that i own. If you think I am trying to screw you over on price ...you can have it for free mskitty. I am not about screwing anyone over. I paid 20 bucks for it when it was 2 ft tall. Once again you can be the judge. I think it has several pups already. I'll look again tomorrow.

I'll try to do that tomorrow ....some of the leaves are yellowing due to the length of sunlight ...but big base for the size of the plant...

no doubt it will bounce out in the spring. You can be the judge. =)
