Hi guys,

I just wanted some advice on what i should do with the pup when it grows? I heard that they drain to much energy from the mother plant which means that they should be cut down?

What should be done?

Cheers

Hi guys,

The leaves on my banana tree weep and close during the day when the sun is beaming. Adequate water and nutrients is given periodically. Why do the leaves do this? It almost looks like it wants to die. Sucker was dug up recently and potted in good soil. It had a good root system with no damage to it during the transplant. The sucker is about 2 foot high with many leaves and it was isolated away from its mother plant however a second sucker from the one i dug up was detached and potted separately with heaps of root system. Am i doing anything wrong? I drilled many holes in bottom of pot for good drainage. Water once a day very lightly. It is summer here in australia temperature is 86 humid.

So is it normal for the leaves to do this? as they are very temperamental one day they weep then the next day they open up are they lacking anything?

Cheers

General Discussions. » potting mix ratio Feb 23, 2009 08:31 AM (Total replies: 2)

Ok guys i have finally located a sucker, friend of mine gave me one in a pot around about 5ft7. I am completely new to this.

I have been reading up alot about banana trees and how to feed them however i am not completely convinced on the correct way to pot them. I have seen topics on rotted roots and i am scared to kill the root system.

Correct me if i am wrong, i believe that you need a good potting mix, add some sand (Now is builders sand ok to use? and what ratio would you use to the potting mix? 75% potting mix to 25% sand??) Add some peat moss and fertiliser. Have i missed anything? I saw a thread about using perlite and vermiculite?? I am growing the tree outdoors in a sunny and warm area. I have read that perlite is used on hydroponics. I am not intending to do this.

Thank you very much

To whom it may concern,

I have always wanted to grow a banana tree and today i found a whole bunch of banana trees growing in this park. Other small banana trees germinated. I pulled one out of the ground but the root did not come out. I managed just to remove the stem which held alot of water.

I have now planted the tree with no root, any idea if this will survive?

Cheers
