Im not sure what I have either. Im waiting for the fruit to come then I can guess what it is. Never knew there were so many different kinds. Your doing the right thing I think by cutting it down and starting fresh. With that spider, just get a stick and move the creepy crawly somewhere else. Guess its too late for that huh. Good luck in your future trees

I guess I am a little lucky since I cant stop them from popping up. As of right now I have another 3 that just sprouted up through the ground. I chopped a few a week and some ago. Crazyness.. My buddy who gave me the plant is envious too since his does not do this. Dont know what I am doing but its right. Ill put up pics of it tomorrow.

As far as I can see Iam going to point out the obvious. That tree is unhealthy. The pesticides or whatever you sprayed on it has badly reacted to the plant itself thus split. Take it out and grow another. Buddy of mine has done the same thing. He rinsed his through out and staked it with line for support. His seems a little better but still brown. Time will tell I guess if it lives or now but he has planted others.

I have read more posts from the forums and have learned a few things. One ? still remains, as the Sucker starts sprouting its comming from the base of he mther plant. Do I dig down and cut it right from the big tree or what. I dont want to disturb the mother roots by digging up one of the smaller offsprings.

I recently, well about 8-9 months ago received a banana tree from a friend of mine which was about 3 ft tall. Dont now what kind it is. Now it about 7 ft tall and has branched off two more 7 ftrs. It keeps popping up new plants like every week. I told my friend about it and his does not do this at all. Same plant, but different results. I keep cutting my new stalks at the ground but they keep on comming. Is this normall??
