Thanks for your reply. I will watch it closely and see what happens. The bananas are about 6 inches long not the 10 inch I was hoping for, At this stage of the game We'll take what ever we can get.

Well we had our cold, for here, and even though I covered the bananas, the best I could, all the leaves have turned brown and starting to fall down. The bunch of Bananas are still gooking good but don't seem to be growing any bigger. I wonder if they will grow and ripen or just die?? After two years I hope they make it. Any one have any Ideas??

Perhaps I have not read or maybe just naive but I finally realized that the TBT is nothing more that that a trans shipper. As far as I have seen they have not written any response to any of our many questions, they must have some. But I must say that this is an excellent web Forum because of all of you. I would just expect them to come out with some helpful news and suggestions. I have been on several forums and the moderators have always had some helpful hints and suggestions.
No Matter thanks guys but maybe you could help us sometime.
May you win the Lottery and split it with me.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

General Tropical plant growing Tips » Banana Flower Dec 14, 2007 10:27 AM (Total replies: 0)

Now that this musa-gold-finger. has fruit what should I do about the blossom? All the big hands have formed and now all I am getting is little fellers, that fall off all most as fast at the purple covering lift. Would it be best to cut it off and let that energy go to the fruit, or just leave it alone??
TIA

Don't know why the last post didn't come out so I will try this time.
We now have six hands of young fruit, with looks like more to come. I'm really surprised by the number of bees and wasps attracted to the blossom. I have feed it and watered it about once a week. It looks like it really enjoys its location. The soil that it is planted in is what ever the topsoil (3 inches) and then tan/orange clay. The area that it is planted is next to the house, right outside of the kitchen window. I hope its not bashful because we look at it quite often. Today I removed the purple covers from the flowers and now can see that the 1st hand is smaller than the rest! The fruit was completely covered by the purple cover maybe the bees and wasps couldn't get to the flowers. We'll have to see what happens now, the flowers on that hand appear to be brown.Past polenization?

"Round Up" will do the trick.
But giving them away is a whole lot better and just of the friends you will make.

Tell That old China Marine SEMPER FI. from another Jar Head. And merry Christmas. I have a pup( About 1 1/2 FT high, no leaves yet) that I have cut away from the "Mother" and letting it rest. If you would like I could dig it up and send it to you. I don't know anything about growing in your area so I'm not sure it would work, but would be willing to try. The "Mother" has been in the ground about 20 months and is just now starting to bloom. So I would guess that it would take about that long for this pup to fruit. If you don't want this one from me I will buy one for him and have it shipped there. I'm sure that The Banana Tree has some that would work in your area. Let me know which way you want to go and I will check on what it would cost to ship it to you. If we can get one from TBT for less then I will have it shipped to you.
I think he would enjoy something like that and be a nice surprise.
If you are thinking of a banana that has long leaves then I not to sure you can get one unless it is from someone close to you. Shipping this time of the year could be a challenge, the cold.
Let me know.

Banana Growing tips- How to grow banana. » It's going to bloom. I think! Nov 7, 2007 04:46 PM (Total replies: 1)

It Is definitely the start of a bloom We are now heading into the second week that we realised it was something other than a leaf. The bloom is still covered in leaf like green, with red streaks, and about 18 inches above the last leaf. One section is curled and I would guess that is where the bloom will come out. Of course now it is starting to get cold, in the low 50's,in the mornings, but warms up to mid 70's in the afternoon. I am just hoping that this cool weather will not slow down the growth. Have fed it and watching it like a hawk.

I think that it is going to bloom. This "spike" is very different than the ones we have seen when it is a leaf. It is outside our kitchen and so we can watch it very close and often. It now seems that this spike is taking forever to come out far enough, so that we can really tell.
This plant is from Banana Tree. We bought the corm last year ,in February, so it has now been growing for over 20 months.
If any one wants I can take some pictures. Just let me know and also how you get them on, as an attachment.

General Discussions. » does banana latex dissolve kidney stone??? Oct 1, 2007 03:18 PM (Total replies: 1)

When I lived in Thailand I heard of people using this for urinary infections. I didn't ask pacifically what was being treated so ? to answer your question. If it works in the urinary track it might work for the stones. It was my understanding that they crushed the stem of the leaf and just drank the juice. I would be careful and only use a small amount until you are sure that your system can handle it. Some time things work for them and not for us, maybe it is what we have been used to eating. So be careful.
Please let me know if it works out.

Banana Growing tips- How to grow banana. » When Bloom? Sep 30, 2007 03:01 PM (Total replies: 1)

We have a banana that has been growing for about 18+ months and still no blooms. What does it take to make them flower? (Cultivar UNK).Has 3+ pups and growing like crazy. Also have Lady finger (one pup) that have been growing about 9 months. Is there any thing I can do to hasten the blooms. Winter is about on us and even if we do live in zone 9-10 some times I have to cover them and the taller one is now about the roof line making the job a lot harder.
TIA
