well,....... as it's May here in Montana, any picture of the plant i could send you would be extremely unflattering,..... i'm not going to lie. it's a mystery foundling i picked up from a nursery at some point. chances are, it's not comprable to the quality of Datura or Brug you can find in your area......I would certainly trade for any seeds or cuttings you have that are of dubious origin,...
Cathy
I have a butt load of Datura seeds. Unfortunately, it's an unknown cultivar,..... has a sprawling habit and white single flowers. Very vigorous and fairly free flowering, even indoors.

I finally gave in to my mom's pleading and seeded little purple Violas and California Poppies in ONE perenial border,..........Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can see where this one is going,......

ok, so clearly, I am not the greatest at cacti,......But, being the plant person on my floor, my friend brought me her suffering Hibotan. First, its red top dried out, shriveled and fell off. Next, its stem began to discolor and become,....well, squishy and liquidy inside. As I did not have care of the plant, i don't know how much water it was getting, but it is winter and i do suspect over watering,....but the top shriveling that began the whole decline still puzzles me. At any rate, any similar experiences anyone has had with these plants would be welcome, as she is very upset, as well as convinced that she can't keep anything alive.

i agree,........Brugmansia. the first time i ever smelled one, i was in Seattle and it was growing in a tub outside the University greenhouse,.......as soon as i smelled it, i knew i had to know more about those facinating plants.
Cathy
I'm in Bozeman MT, so all my plants live inside too. generally speaking, my Datura's kinda look poopie durring the winter (defoliate and all that), and my Papayrus gets a little crusty, but everybody perks up during the growing season. Where are you at in Canada? and which banana is in your picture (under the "Plant Pictures" thread)?
Cathy
indooor plants get spider mites much more easily than outdoor,....... i garuntee it ( sorry, i'm a horrid speller, can you believe i tutor English?) anyway,..... i have indoor tropicals and Mites love warm dryness. mist your plants when they're indoors. if you notice that they do have mites, use a mild solution of soap and water to spray and then rinse in the shower, or use a commercially produced insecticidal soap or chemical. it's tough to get rid of these buggers, but keep the affected plant away from the others. if one plant has them,... usually others do too. i've never tried tea-tree oil,...... but it give it a shot. sometimes Mites can become resistant to whatever you've been using, so be sure to switch it up.

golly!!,.... a 15 gal. that'ts a big'un. anyway,..... if you have any foundlings let me know. ......i've got a regular plant orphanage here in indooor Bozeman.

i agree with ibrahim;...... tropical fruit are tricky. most that are produced for grocery stores are grown on roots that are not thier own. therefore,.... if you propogate from the seed, you are growing a plant whose roots are not the strongest,..... not the roots on which the fruit was grown. Hence, under less than ideal condotions, the seedling fails. perhaps look for a rooted seedling or cutting grown on it's own roots. this may help the vigor of your plant

i agree with green99. i've hyad clients winter Musa Basjoo in Eastern WA, and also P. bissetti and P. nuda. maybe try on a Western exposure at first or somewhere sheltered from high winds in winter.
Cathy
oooh!!!,..... these are so neat! i wish i had the space and climat efor one. the leaves are so lovely and practical, the way they funnel water to the main plant is very clever,...... maybe someday,.....*sigh*
Cathy
do these "grocery store" gingers' flower, or merely produce roots?
Cathy
oops,..... and now i'm a "Sour Cactus",.......
Cathy
personally, i'd rather remain a "Palm Tree Professor".........
Cathy
yeah,...... i'd love greenhouse, but i live in an appartment,.... so no luck . maybe someday. anyway,..... i have lots of healthy and vigorous begoninas and daturas but i'd really love a banana, esp. one with colored or partially colored leaves, i don't really care about fruit. has anyone in a similar climate had any good experiences?
Cathy
I'm picking up what you're puttin' down,...... my pelargoniums, New Zealand flax, daturas and papyruses all do double duty as patio plants and house plants. About this time of year they're all crowded into the brightly lit parts of my Bozeman, MT home.
