Speaking of babies...when should I expect to see a new stem start to develop?

Hi all! I'm new here and I need your collective expertise. I recently started my very first banana plant (it was cut off at about 36" last summer and taken out of the ground for winter) I planted the stalk thing in a 2.1 cu. ft. pot with a 80/20 potting soil to sand mix. It has finally started to take off (it looked awfully sad for about 3 weeks) and now I'm starting to think that I will need a bigger pot. What do you think?

Also...I've noticed some little knobby things starting to grow out of the bulb (rhyzome?). What are those things? What should I do with them? let them grow? cover them up?

Also also, should I tear off what is left of stalk from last season, or just leave them on?

Thanks!

rob
