I think your most likely doing something else wrong since it's pretty hard to overfertilize, don't get me wrong you can do it but you would have to be using a ton of the stuff to fry the plants. It's probably a case of you overwatering the plants or the soil didn't have good enough drainage. Good draining soil is key, banana likes lots of water but it needs the air to or else it starts rotting. Hope this helps?
