Yes, you'll want some bright lights but you don't need any pot growing lamps like you mentioned, it's all about proximity to the light source, but without burning the leaves. You are not trying to get the banana to fruit inside you are only trying to get it's growth cycle started early. Also watch out and don't over water and over feed, in the winter months since the plants won't need as much as in the active growing months of summer. But do look and make sure they don't get too dry since the dry indoor air of winter will leave your plants thirsty. Good Luck!
You got me thinking, do you have any tips how I can protect my bananas from getting ripped up from the wind? I was thinking of maybe planting some kind of trees or something as a wind break or maybe a fence for now. Could you throw one of those anti-bird nets over the plant before a storm perhaps? I don't know?
I'm planning on moving in the next year or two, and this time I will be moving to a place where the weather is much warmer "palm paradise". In the united states what city do you think would be your first choice to live in? A city with a good ecomony and fair home prices, I'd like to have some extra room in the yard to get really crazy with the tropical plants. Any city suggestions?
...Dreaming of my plam tree heaven ahhaha.
I didn't do it but my wife did put air potatoes in our yard one year and I'm still trying to keep these bad boys under control, man are they wild or what growing all over aaaahhhh. Needless to say I have a say nowadays on what gets planted in our little backyard jungle ha. Edited by Morris_Roberts on Nov 9, 2004 at 10:38 PM
Howdy tropical birds and bananas! I was just monkeying around and thought I'd jump on in the fray here ahhaha. Look foward to talking with you.
Not bad here, I am a pro now at growing in containers since I'm living in an apartment this year.
