Thank You so much. That was last year when I wrote that and you were correct it sure was a Ensete Ventricosum. Mine finally flowered this last year and it was a huge red flower. We had tons of bee's around the flower, and flies. Well we fianlly had it removed what a job. I was really bummed though. I really like it. Do know where I can you get another one? I did go and educate myself a little on the Abyssinian. What is the difference between a Ensete Ventricosum and a Ensete superbum? I was thinking bout getting the Ensete superbum. I just bought a Ensete maurellii and put in next to my pool. We had a Banana tree (don't know which type since one of the kids lost the name tag) by the pool and it produced multiple trees. I am talking lots of trees. It did fruit and something sticky was dripping from the fruit onto our pool (not so good), plus lots of bees. I couldn't keep up with trying to cut the new trees out so we has to take the tree out. It really was pretty but not in that location. So we planted the Ensete maurellii in its place.
Maybe someone could help me on my questions.
Thanks so much, Dawn
I was trying to find out what kind of Banana Tree I have. I bought it about 3-5 years ago at Wal-Mart. This thing is HUGE. Never fruited never produced babies. The leaves are probally 6 or 7 feet well they are bigger than me and I am 5'4". The base trunk is huge in diameter. The leaves are green but the vine in the middle of leaves is a purpish red. Everyone always ask what kind of Banana is it. I said I have no clue. Please help I would love to buy another but have no clue what kind it is.
