Bought my first tree last year in June. http://planerc.com/images/banana_060821.jpg I kept them indoors in a pot during the winter. One of them is doing awesome but the other one is almost dormant.
The small one to the left was the same size as the big one to the right before I planted them. http://planerc.com/images/banana_0930_2.jpg
The big one has some nice suckers coming up. http://planerc.com/images/banana_0930.jpg
The hard question for me is going to be what to do for the winter. I want to dig it up and stick it in a shed so it doesn't freeze but I'm not sure how to cut down the big one so that it produces fruit next year. Do I cut a little off or most of the way down the trunk?
Last year I had some non-fruit banana trees not make it through the winter when I left them in the ground.

It has been almost a year since I ordered my banana trees. One is doing great the other one is very small.
I kept the plants in containers at work during the winter and planted them outside as soon as I could. Now: http://planerc.com/images/banana_2007.jpg Before: http://planerc.com/images/banana_060821.jpg
I ordered two banana plants. One of them is doing really great while the other is just trying to hang on.
The first plant, Goldfinger banana, was larger than the Ice Cream Banana when I planted them on 8/11. See picture. http://planerc.com/images/banana.jpg
Now after 10 days the plant on the right is doing GREAT but the one on the left is looking poor. I think it may be from the small root system that was sent. The one on the right looked like it was well established. http://planerc.com/images/banana_060821.jpg
Should I ask for a replacement or will the plant recover and start growing?
I live in Dallas Tx. The temperature got down to about 25 degrees and the stock died all the way under ground but it came back fine.
I had a small palm tree almost die completely but the big palm tree was fine.
Here is a couple of pictures from last year.

This is what it looks like this year. http://planerc.com/images/pic3.jpg
I bought a few from Calloways that were green and purple. They do not produce fruit. The stock will die in the cold but come back in the summer. Mine looks great now but it took a while to come back.
Edited: I bought the Banana trees from Calloways not Lowes. Needed to update my post.

Hey dallasgirl,
I'm new to banana trees. I looked every once in a while at Lowes, Home Depot, and Callaways but never found what I wanted. (Ones that produce food. )
I just ordered two from this site and below is a picture of what they looked like when they arrived.

I'm trying out the Goldfinger and the Ice Cream banana.
Good Luck on finding anything in Dallas but post here if you do.
