Tropical Community » Hoya species Aug 13, 2006 10:46 PM (Total replies: 0)

Hi
IIam in India. have 3 species of Hoya. H. purpureo-fusca, H. australis & H. carnosa. All these species have fragrant flowers. I am growing these climbers as epiphytes, i.e.on wooden pieces or on fibrous coconut shell covering. H. purpureo-fusca flowers almost all year round. The flowers are very attractive. They ooze pure white, sweetish nectar. I would love to know about other species fom the plant lovers.

Here in India we get as amny Neem seeds as we want. We also use them for making herbal insecticides. The neem seed oil cake is used as a manure, which also prevents ground pests from atacking roots.

Artabotrys hexapetalus seeds germinate without much care. They take about15-20 days to sprout. I have never heard of A. uncinatus species. I would like to see a photograph of it.

Tropical Community » How do you promote blooming in gingers? Aug 13, 2006 09:58 PM (Total replies: 4)

Flowerin Ginger plants need very humid condition for their healthy growth & for flowering. They need moisture near their roots all the time. However, they can not tolerate water stagnation. They thrive best in semi shade.

Here in Indiathere are many plants having fagrant flowers. I like Echites caryoaphyllata most. It is a big woody climber belonging to Apocynaceae family. Then second best for meis Dolichandrone falcata, a medium size tree, which blooms very profusely March-April. The tree has white flowers, which send the scent whafting at night. The third is Nctanthus arbor-tristis.
