Yeah, last summer was on the cool side here too. Well, relatively speaking. It got into the eighties but never really got hot and consequently the tomatoes (that's solanums to anyone who is insisting on remaining tropical) did diddlysquat.

But giving a pineapple a cold...well that's plant cruelty! What else are you summering outside, if you don't mind me asking?

Tropical plants Wanted ! » treefern sprores Feb 16, 2005 07:57 AM (Total replies: 1)

Hello,
I think your best bet might be to post on the Yahoo Treefern group. That's the only place I've seen where spore has been offered for trade. YOu picked a tough one to get hooked on. I've also heard that most people have iffy results from purchased spores but that could easily be from lack of proper growing conditions.

Hi Everybody,
I'm skatayama from NJ. I have an overwhelming compulsion to grow plants out of their zones. Any other Yankee tropical plant lovers paying attention out there?

Tropical plants Wanted ! » Strictocardia campanulata Dec 17, 2004 07:12 PM (Total replies: 3)

I recently saw a photo from a botanical garden in Fl. of this plant. The curator said he obtained his from Logee's. He also said it took two winters for it to flower which probably rules it out for me. It's probably to tender for Z7 and I've got enough plants to overwinter for now...

Nana... is right. After flowering, the main stem dies. It should produce suckers so don't cut them down or dig them up before you give it a chance to procreate.
