bamboochik, kinda off topic, but, out of curiousity, why can a banana plant not have 18 leaves on it @ 2 ft tall?

Here is one of my plants. I have a total of 4 different varieties.

It is an offsrping of my first banana plant which I have no idea what variety it is. It was given to me.

This is the Williams variety. It is from March 22nd 2005. It has the blotches

This is the same plant today. (I am working on finishing mulching)

You can still see the red splotches on the older bottom leaves. There are 14 leaves on the plant currently, 2 barely.

If the leaves are folded, aiming down, running lengthwise, then more than likely, it is extreme heat. Here in Texas, on days it is in the upper nineties, my trees look that way often. I water them more often to keep them from browning on the edges. I water them 2x a day.

The blotches are natural. They usually go away after the plant gets larger.

Photobucket dot com is great to upload photos to. They will provide a cut and paste URL to post pics on forums, etc.

I don't think the pot needs to be very large. I transplanted a 7 ft banana tree in my backyard the other day and the corm was only approximately 8 inches diameter. The roots werent very long. Maybe a 12" pot.

Banana Growing tips- How to grow banana. » What variety do I have? Dec 23, 2004 02:12 PM (Total replies: 7)

Hello, I am new here too. I have been reading lots on bananas. I had one 7 foot tree last year that was given to me, then I got the bug. I have 4 other breeds I am working with indoors right now, hopefully to transplant them outdoors this spring.
As far as your banana type, they look like Dwarf Banana link here>> http://www.banana-tree.com/Product_Detail~category~13~Product_ID~575.cfm Some of the banana plants look similiar, so is hard to say (also looks like a Iholene Red banana). Also said they are edible-careful. Maybe search the pics on this site.
I hopefully will have one of them (Dwarf Banana) next hear if I can get these seeds going. I wanted to taste them also. Hope this helps.
