How to Grow Protea
Soil mixture must be very porous and acidic - 1/3 compost and peat and 2/3 coarse sand with mixture of small twigs and old bark pieces. Retain a pH factor 5.0 - 5.5.
A constant supply of fresh air should be attained without having high humidity. Water only when your soil is nearly dry. Seeds are planted 1/2" deep using deep containers since roots are long and transplanting must be done with care.
The seeds may remain viable up to 3 years and the germination may be erratic. Provide bright light and a gradually move into strong sun after seedlings are 7". Do not keep the soil wet and do not water leaves.
