This is a short heliconia growing from 3 1/2' - 6' and has a blooming period from May to December. The upright flower bracts are bright red with some pink in the base and the sepals are blue-green, or metallic blue. Best grown in 20 to 50% shade. Has Musoid leaves ( banana-like ). Origin is believed to be Guyana - Venezuela. All of the Heliconia listed are RHIZOMES ( root sections ). NOT FOR EXPORT. Using well draining soil mixture plant the rhizome with its pseudostem pointing upright and cover the rhizome with 1 1/2" of the soil mix. Keep warm and always lightly moist. Do not keep wet. Frequently the pseudostem will dry up or rot away -- it is normal since most of the growth will come from the rhizome that is under the soil.
