SOLD OUT / NOT AVAILABLE This unique plant is grown for its interesting foliage plus the unusual flowering spathe that it produces. The seeds must be planted as soon as received. It usually takes 3 to 4 years for plants to reach a height of 4 . It begins to grow an underground bulb which becomes larger each year and could eventually weigh over 30 pounds and will in turn produce smaller bulbs. The fleshy stalk is mottled green and cream. It usually takes 3 years or more before a flowering spike occurs. The odor of the spike is undesirable but its purpose is to draw flying insects as pollinators. The plant should be placed outdoors during the flowering period - the smell is not lasting more than a day or so. This plant can be grown indoors or outdoors. It is preferable for growing in warmer zones but can be grown outdoors in Pennsylvania if the surface soil is mulched heavily to keep the extreme cold from touching the bulb or roots. It usually creates a lot of attention by those seeing it for the first time. Plant seeds as soon as received. Using a mix of coarse sand and soil mixture plant at a depth of only 3/8" and moisten. Water again only when the soil is quite dry. Bright light.
