Growing Instructions & Tips: |
| This is the national flower of Chile. To many it is considered the most beautiful flower in our Flora. The intense red of the bellflower is a sharp contrast to the dark green foliage. It is a lush vining plant to 15'. Aside from fabulous flowers it produces edible red berries which are always in demand in the growing regions. Our seed are stratified and should be planted as soon as received. For Zone 10, or greenhouse - hardy to 40F. The seeds are the size of a rice grain. Be sure to refer to our growing instructions. |
Germination for: LAPAGERIA rosea "Chilean Bellflower"
Always protect from hot sun or extreme cold. Prepare a 3" container with a mixture of sifted compost and 20% coarse sand. Sow seeds on the surface and then cover the seeds with 3/16" of coarse sand. Keep damp at all times but cannot keep wet. Place in light shade - use acid type fertilizer. 4- 6 weeks are needed before a root may emerge and another 4-6 weeks before a shoot may appear. Ideal median temperature is 66F. Transplant when 3 leaves develop.
