| A beautiful evergreen conifer which is remarkedly long lived. There are specimens about 1,500 years old. Found from northern Europe to North Africa. It may grow 50' with smooth reddish bark which peels with age. A densely branched tree with broad crown and spreading branches.The leaves are linear, sickle shaped, dark green on top and growing spirally.The male flowers grow in clusters: the females produce a red berried seed. The seed and the leaves are poisonous.Very slow growing. Popular as hedge and topiary. Warm to temperate - zone #7. |
