The popular Saw Palmetto is a short shrubby palm. It develops 3' wide palmate leaves deeply pleated in graceful segments and separating with maturity. It inhabits areas from the Florida keys to South Carolina and can form huge colonies. Although the trunk is subterranean it will sometimes form a trunk up to 10' tall. It produces fragrant white flowers and edible blackish fruits. |
