A handsome shrubby vine that is hardy to 22 degrees. In warmer zones it is evergreen. Its small purple flowers are 3 petaled and very fragrant; the leaves are digitately compound with 3-5 leaflets. Its 5" sausage shaped fruits split open when ripe revealing white gelatinous pulp with a unique tapioca -like flavor. Two varieties of Akebia must be planted in order to obtain fruits. We also offer Akebia trifoliata. |
