This is a small hardy Colombian species with 5 angled fruits, pale yellow with occasional shades of purple, red ororanfge. The taste may be quite sweet with a hint of apple or it can be astringent and barely edible. It reaches 16' to 21' and has an upright habit and grey trunk and grows at high altitude in a humid forest area. It is mostly dioecious ( both male & female flowers ), the flowers are usually intensely red or purple with red or green petioles. It is a heavy bearer of fruits.
