Germination for: ELEPHANT'S FOOT - Dioscorea macrostachys - SMALL
Do not bury the tuber. Place it on top of the soil- press down and work just enough of it into the soil that there is only about 1/2" of its base in the soil. Your soil must be very well draining and you cannot keep the tuber wet or overly moist. If too moist it will rot. Watering may occur when you are sure that the soil is extremely dry. Some botanical gardens prefer to mist the air each morning for 3-5 minutes instead of actually watering. It must be grown in very bright light. During the dry desert season it can go for 5-8 weeks without water.
